2018 Volunteer of the Year Awards

Volunteer Attorney of the Year- Jay Stratton

Each year ELAP is pleased that over 150 attorneys volunteer at our clinics, workshops and other pro bono events. Over the past two years, Jay Stratton of Stratton Immigration has gone above and beyond as our guest speaker at numerous “Know Your Rights” workshops, helping at immigration clinics and taking cases pro bono for direct representation.  Jay’s warmth and generous spirit puts our clients at ease and continues to make our immigration workshops sought after and well received.

For these and so many other contributions, we name Jay Stratton our 2018 attorney of the year.

Law Firm of the Year- Peterson Russell Kelly, PLLC

Peterson Russell Kelly gives back to the community, and in particular, they give back to ELAP.  Numerous attorneys work in our clinics, and work with our attorneys on cases throughout the year. But not just this year – two of their named partners, David Kelly and Greg Russell, have been volunteering with ELAP since our founding in 1989.  This spirit of giving goes beyond the lawyers in their organization – their legal administrators have acted at mentors to our legal aides and staff.

We are proud that of our long collaboration with PRK – and are proud to name them our 2018 Law Firm of the Year.

Corporate Partner of the Year: Costco Wholesale

Costco is known as a “big box store”. What many don’t know is that through their continued giving of time and other support ELAP refers to them as the “big heart store”.  Costco’s legal department has stepped up in numerous ways, such as staffing our monthly wills clinics, volunteering at our legal advice clinics, and always filling tables at our Breakfast for Justice. ELAP simply could not do the work we do without committed corporate partners, and Costco delivers month in and month out.

For these reasons and so much more, we name Costco our 2018 Corporate Partner of the Year.

Lifetime Achievement Award- Mary Hammerly

Mary Hammerly has been a stalwart volunteer attorney with ELAP since our founding in 1989.  Year in and year out Mary has worked tirelessly at our clinics and taking on pro bono cases.  Professionally, Mary is our go to person for family law questions; she has taught numerous CLEs, mentored our staff attorneys, and whenever another clinic attorney has a family law question our first response is “call Mary”.

In addition to ELAP, Mary has been a longtime volunteer with Girl Scouts and when she finds the rare spare moment, she loves to golf. For Mary’s 30-year commitment to ELAP and to the equality of justice in our community, we are proud to honor her with our 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award.
